If you're looking for something close to the Disneyland Main Entrance that will not break the bank, this is the place.   There is a (fee) trolly system to take you to the park.  The resort has two outdoor pools and a beach entry children's pool.  Rooms are spacious and bright.  Free high speed internet.

Medieval Times in Anaheim is best described as an theatre restaurant with a theme.  You'll be entertained by tournaments featuring knights and horses and kids will have fun with the opportunity to eat with their hands!

Aubergine in Newport Beach is a fine dining experience you'll probably want to enjoy without the kids.  The wine list is wonderful, and this place is a find in Orange County which is generally not known for it's refined dining. The five and nine course tasting menus are unforgettable

Lee's Sandwiches multiple locations.  Looking for something out of the ordinary but don't want to spend a ton of money?  You might not know that Orange County has a huge Vietnamese populations.  Lee's sandwiches caters to that population with delicious Vietnamese sandwiches.  Expect to have sandwich meat or pate with fresh herbs and sauce on a freshly made baguette.  The restaurant also has a wide variety of very sweet Vietnamese desserts.

Wahoo's Fish Tacos multiple locations.  This casual restaurant caters to surfers who want simple tacos made with the freshest ingredients.  Their fish tacos are always made with fresh grilled fish - when Wahoo is available, it is a special treat.  Wahoo's also has a wide variety of other Mexican dishes

Yamabuki inside Disney's Anaheim paradise pier hotel, this Japanese restaurant has a variety of cooked and sushi dishes.  Try the plum wine ice cream for dessert.

La Vie en Rose in nearby Brea California serves stylishly presented traditional French Cuisine.  Save room for the Grand Marnier souffle.

Kitma Thai Cuisine is hidden away in an office park in Irvine - but don't be fooled - it serves Orange County's best Thai cuisine with delicate sauces that are not over-sugary like many Thai fast food places.

what is the traffic volume like on the I5 near to Anaheim, will it take longer than resorts advertise to get to the parks

You should plan on freeway traffic being quite heavy especially on weekday mornings and weekday afternoons. Individual resorts may factor in traffic in their official estimates, but you can also try calling the resort directly or planning to take public transportation.
